An open market is held in the town every Friday. Local coffee houses, cafes and tiny restaurants in the main square are very cute places to mingle with the locals. The foundation of the city, whose name is mentioned in Lycian inscriptions as Kadawanti, dates back to 3000 BC. It is a different Lycian city with its bird's-eye view of Fethiye and the Cyclops city walls, which gave its name to a wall-building technique.
